If I had my druthers and some free time on my hands (insert ironic laughter), I’d spend my weekends walking in and out of art galleries or perusing an art museum. Art allows us to appreciate the world around us and escape from the everyday into a type of beauty that only creativity can produce. It always astonishes me how vastly different one artist’s rendition of a subject can be from another artist.
I am not sure how many locals realize the blessing they have in their backyards. Literally every Friday of the month there is a different gallery crawl offered in our area. If you read my blogs, you know how much I like to support local small businesses, and artists definitely fall into that category! The weather in our area is ideal nearly year round to take a walking tour of local galleries, so get out there to support local artists & businesses and broaden your horizons 🙂
First Friday is located in Raleigh. The event is free and from 6-9pm. Many restaurants showcase local art and offer specials. Bonus for parents: many museums even offer activities for the kids! Here is a map of the venue.
Head on over to Chapel Hill and Carrboro for the 2nd Friday Art Walk. Once again, from 6-9pm you can walk the streets of our local communities and enjoy the events for free. If the weather isn’t great for heading out on foot, you can always use the bus can help you get around! Here is a map of their venue.
Durham hosts Third Friday. Their website lists so many other activities going on throughout the month for adults and children alike to enjoy.
Final Fridays Art Crawl is held in Cary. Galleries, restaurants, live music and food trucks… that sounds like a perfect night out to me!
As you can see, there is no need to be bored on a Friday night in the Triangle area! Get on out, meet some friends or make some new ones and support local artists & small businesses!
